Part 1: #CreateGoals

Right from the start Christopher’s passion for barbering was apparent.

Before even reaching the back room he stopped me to admire a small framed black and white photo on the wall.

“This picture here is the first ever Barbershop School. 1893 in Chicago,” he told me with pride in his eyes, “First of it’s kind” he said.

We looked over the photo together for a moment, speaking briefly about how far barbering has come since then. We continued to the back office where Christopher explained to me his long road to barbering.

Christopher didn’t always want to be a barber, however his motivations to help and teach others is ultimately what led him down this path.

He spoke to me of his youth, way before he even knew what barbering was, when he would help his father at his job at a local candy shop.

Even from a young age, Christopher had a very entrepreneurial spirit, dreaming of one day owning his own candy shop.

Christopher’s father would eventually go on to open his very own Candy Shop in New Hyde Park.

Christopher’s story however, would head down a very different road.

Christopher admits he had a run-in with the law during his youth. He is very candid in his opinion of himself at that time, admitting he had made mistakes.

While this may have been a very dark time in his life, it also allowed for a moment of clarity that would come to define the man he is today.

While he was away, Christopher went to work as a barber cutting other people’s hair. Just a job at first, he quickly began to realize not only his skill, but also his passion for the craft.

It was in this moment he decided that upon his release he had to turn things around, and barbering was going to be his salvation. Christopher had a plan.
