3 Dead After Shooter Opens Fire in Louisiana Movie Theater

A gunman opened fire at a screening of “Trainwreck” in the Grand 16 Theater in Lafayette, Louisiana on Thursday night, leaving three people dead, including the shooter.

About twenty minutes into the 7:00 screening, a man stood up in the theater and began shooting into the audience before turning the gun on himself. As of 11 p.m., law enforcement officials say that nine people were brought to the hospital, where three were pronounced dead. Brooks David, a public information officer for the Louisiana State Police, described the shooter as a 58-year-old white male believed to be acting alone.

“We heard a loud pop we thought was a firecracker,” Katie Domingue, who had gone to see “Trainwreck” with her fiancee, told The Daily Advertiser. “He wasn’t saying anything. I didn’t hear anybody screaming either.”
