After delivering one of the nation’s best results in the triple jump on Saturday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, University of Connecticut women’s track and field junior Odrine Belot has been selected as the American Athletic Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Belot set a new indoor career-best, posting a 13.03m leap that won the event and moved her into 10th on the 2014-15 NCAA Division I Qualifying List for the triple jump. The result also stands as the top mark in The American. The Husky junior has enjoyed a successful indoor campaign, notching a third-place finish (12.52m) in the triple jump at the NYC Gotham Cup on Jan. 16.

The Elmont, N.Y. native posted a stellar 2014 outdoor campaign, qualifying for the NCAA East Regional in the triple jump with a 12.68m result. Additionally, she won the event at both the indoor and outdoor conference championships and grabbed a silver medal at the ECAC Championships in May.

“Odrine is coming into good form as we approach the conference meet,” said head coach J.J. Clark. “We are excited to see her compete again in the championship part of the season. It seems that all her hard work and preparation are coming together.”

“Odrine has done a great job this indoor season,” said associate head coach Clive Terrelonge. “This is only the third time she has competed in the triple jump this season. I believe she has a chance to jump a lot farther by the time this season ends.”

In total, the Huskies have earned two conference Athlete of the Week nods after Faith Dismuke earned the distinction on Feb. 10.

Belot and the Huskies will enjoy a week of rest before returning to The Armory in New York City to compete in the conference championship set for Feb. 27-28. The Huskies took second in The American’s inaugural indoor championship last season.
